Description: The Soul Cleaver is amongst the rarest weapons in the vast Wraith armory. Soul Cleavers are only forged by the swordsmiths of Cobalt Hearth, a Wraith guild dating back to pre-Concordance times. Few Wraiths are deemed worthy to wield the mighty blade: only a Master of The Hunt, charged with prosecuting the ‘Soul Gathering’ ceremony for Wraith-initiates, is given the honor of carrying the enormous sword.

Outsiders find the Soul Cleaver unwieldy; the entire weapon is forged from ultra-light materials, a secret blend of aluminum and other alloys not commonly found in blades. Wraiths undergo an intense training regimen to utilize the sword – and first impressions can be deceiving: the Cleaver integrates a series of hydraulic chambers running the length of the sword. These chambers – filled with an unidentified liquid – can be filled or emptied in various ways by simple presses on recessed buttons hidden within the grip. Different configurations impact the swing of the blade, allowing the user to send a powerful strike, or rebalance the sword for a backswing. The Soul Cleaver is thus easy to carry on long missions, while maintaining the deadly characteristics of a great sword.

Note: In reviewing our files, I came to the realization that the Field Manual did not include the Soul Cleaver – a gross oversight for anyone anticipating a complete encyclopedic catalog of weaponry. After an unexplainable series of missing DM’s and dropped comms, Wraith Zee was gracious enough to allow for the scanning of his personal Soul Cleaver. While I have been sworn to a certain level of secrecy, I can confirm that the unique hydraulic chambers within the weapon are not filled with mercury, or indeed any of the other substances rumored within academia. It is so much cooler of scientific interest – but I am an Automata of my word, and will not reveal the secret.
