Automata (Aut-ah-ma-ta)

Automata:

  • Machine Creatures: Automata are machine creatures that often resemble anthropoid drones. They fulfill various roles, including manual labor, combat, and academia.

  • Mass Production and Talos Device: The majority of Automata are mass-produced, with their CPU engrams based on the mysterious Talos device. This device is rumored to have been created by the long-extinct Precursor civilization, providing anthropoid intelligence, emotions, and a capacity for learning and change.

  • Gender Identity: Automata can identify with any gender or no gender, and it's considered rude to assume gender pronouns based on construction or occupation.

  • Positronic Brain Technology: The technology behind Automata's positronic brains extends beyond their existence. It serves as the basis for shipboard AI, various strategic computer systems, and is rumored to be connected to the Concordance's AI leader, the Ultra Magi.

  • Old Precursor-era Automata: While exceedingly rare, some Automata still active originate from the old Precursor era. Most, however, appear to be modern Automata, hidden among the galaxy's population, pursuing their own agendas.
