Ashentide

Once a standard galactic year, strange forces align. During this liminal time, the barriers between the tangible and intangible worlds become permeable, and what was once supernatural walks amongst us. This is Ashentide. For some this is a chance to reconnect with lost souls. For others, it is a time spent hiding, for fear of vengeful spirits. Cultures tell tales of ghouls made manifest, of bacchanals of the undead, and whisper of the return of an ancient monstrosity, too terrible to comprehend. The Ashentide season runs in the later part of year, and for many cultures marks the start of their holiday season. The end of Ashentide is marked by the Eve of Wandering Souls - a night where, according to legend, the souls of wrathful dead are allowed free to roam the streets. In some cultures, this is an excuse to use holographic guises, masquerading as your favorite spooky characters. In other societies, it means locking yourself in the house for a day, and not making a peep - lest the souls of the damned find you and tear you apart. In devout households, the season is marked by lighting chamass candles, especially a particularly tall version during the Eve. Candied sour fruits are a staple during the season.
